This week is my first as Senior Growth Manager at ProfitWell, better known for the past 6 years as Price Intelligently.

Here are (just) the top 3 reasons I am super-duper pumped to be coming on board.

Joining an A-Team

After interviewing in Boston for a couple of days with the ProfitWell team, it became abundantly clear:

1) How much they care about not just finding talent, but the right talent/company fit, which works both ways. I was transparent during the process with my strengths and weaknesses and also my desire to “disrupt myself” as I grow, which were both refreshingly reciprocated by the team.

2) As a bootstrapped company, Patrick and Facundo have had to get really good at making even smarter bets than their well-funded competitors in the Boston tech space. Without a doubt the result is a wicked smart and scrappy team flying under the proverbial radar. (Something I plan on changing… the radar part that is, not the wicked smart & scrappy part 😂)

However as a marketing and growth guy, one of the things I couldn’t be fully sure when agreeing to join this A-Team was just how good the tech side is. Certainly I can trust the team is as good as advertised, see they’ve built a great looking app, and see it validated when I read the rave customer reviews like this one from Jake Peters:

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

But as a non-tech guy it was also pretty damn cool to see this tweet last week:

Center of the SaaS World

When I left my last full-time gig 10 months ago, I had a few things on my list that would get me to consider pushing all my chips into a full-time role vs. continuing to do interesting freelance growth projects and leading Story Sprints workshops for founders.

After checking the B2B and tech/startup boxes I was looking for, one of the biggest things on my list was the opportunity to make a big dent in the world.

ProfitWell brings that opportunity in a big way, foremost by being at the center of the growing Software-as-a-Service subscription world, currently with 10,000 of the roughly 40,000 SaaS companies already connected to their platform.

But even more importantly to me, ProfitWell has at its core the understanding that the key to success in SaaS is in getting as close to your customer as you can.

This truth has powered the Price Intelligently side of the business to great success, both as a tech-enabled service practice — no one needs to know more about you and your customers to help you price to your customer’s value correctly — but also as a movement alongside our customers, “Want to win big in SaaS? We can help you know your customer and price accordingly!”

As a result, the ProfitWell platform was built for and continues to grow into a platform with the most accurate subscription metrics for SaaS companies to know their customers inside and out when it comes to revenue and monetization.

And that’s before the next piece of the puzzle I saw a sneak peek of that is currently being beta tested “behind the curtain” which will help our customers do this even more fully in a really exciting way. I’m not allowed to divulge now, but let’s just say ProfitWell customers will soon be able to see at a high level a *mix* of things from one dashboard (or *panel*) that shows an even more complete picture of their customers, which can help them monetize and retain those customers even better.

A 🚀 That Just Needs More ⛽️

The last big consideration for me was, “Does this company have rocket ship potential and can I make a significant contribution to sending it into space?”

I certainly think ProfitWell does on both fronts.

What the team has already accomplished, by carving out a unique niche and becoming the go-to experts in SaaS pricing strategy and then in building a SaaS metrics platform used by 10,000 companies, I believe it adds up to a rocket ship that is built and sitting on the launchpad.

(Which is where I come running in with some very large additional fuel containers!) ⛽️🔥🚀📈💸

As I told Patrick and the team during my visit, it’s clear to me that they’ve already done most of the hard work in getting it built and the initial traction. But now it’s time to really get out there with a megaphone and shine a light on how our ProfitWell customers are becoming the heroes of the SaaS space, with a little help and insights from us nerds and our killer subscription data.

So needless to say I’m thrilled to be joining the team and can’t wait to start talking to ProfitWell customers and prospects to get to know them better and help tell their story of success to the world.

A Big Thanks 🙏

I’d be remiss if I didn’t extend the biggest thanks to my wife for agreeing to walk this “tightrope” of an entrepreneurial journey with me the last 10 months to find the right long-term opportunity. She’s been my rock and her trust and faith in a process that didn’t always add up at times has meant the world to me.

It’s also funny to look back and connect the dots on how things come to be. Without the support of my parents, in-laws, siblings, and extended family, and without the clients that hired me (Shout out to Sam, Tess, Edmundo, Joe, Sanjay, Dave, and others), and without the great friends that supported me (James, Charbel, Marty, Andrew, Mickeli, Casey, Megan, Whitney, Joe, Dale, Gregoire, and more) this wouldn’t be the really cool reality it is today.

One Lesson For the Road

And if I leave you with one lesson from this exciting news it’s to get after what you want. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and be aggressive when you see something you want.

Everything you want is just on the other side of fear.

— George Addair

5 months ago I saw an interesting opportunity on a LinkedIn post by Dave Gerhardt and David Cancel that I knew would help push me in the right direction on this search for something bigger.

I didn’t settle for applying for it through the form and just throwing my name in the hat though, I did enough to get my name to the top of the list so that Dave said “OK, so I can’t not give you a shot a this.” (Big thanks to DG & DC for the shot!)

That initial project led to an amazing opportunity to play on a big stage, where I was able to do what I compared to being akin to playing backup point guard for the startup world’s version of the Warriors (aka Drift) and to put a few points on the board by contributing in a small but meaningful way.

And I can tell you confidently that without that experience and connections, I wouldn’t be so lucky as to be suiting up this week for what I consider to be the startup world’s version of the Celtics at ProfitWell. #LFG!
